A Balanced Workstation - Tailored Solution for one of Innovant’s NYC Projects in Mid-town
“For a recent client located in the San Francisco area, we provided the Form product for their command and control centers and in their training area. Form was the right fit for their complexity and ability to manage change over the long term. After the installation was complete, the customer, of their own initiative, expanded the extent of product and areas to receive Innovant’s Form product. I think that speaks for itself. The customer’s IT services team were also extremely impressed with the accessibility and ease of integrating their technology requirements within the consoles. Innovant’s consoles have now been successfully installed in several of facilities with very positive reception in all instances." Read More>

Design Innovation & Collaboration
“That objective is to find customer problems and solve them with new offerings.”—Roy Luebke
The world has seen a change in the meaning of the term “Innovation”. The modern day definition seems to have expanded beyond just physical products, to anything from business models, customer experiences, to customer service; anything that brings or increases value to the consumer. These principles should work together seamlessly in every department to generate growth and accelerate economic value.
DMI’s Roy Luebke points out that “Innovation is a result. Achieving innovation requires a combination of user research, competitor research, and market driver research (i.e. social, technical, economic, environmental, and political/legal evolutions) and analysis of these elements to make sense of the customers’ world and then creatively solve the challenges people have while operating in these worlds.”
Innovant’s approach is very much synonymous with this process. Our designs are a result of collaboration with our clients as their needs have evolved over time. Clients and designers choose from a selection of product lines based on the broad needs of their office. From there, a team of designers from our client services department help personalize key interchangeable elements to fit the end users ergonomic needs for their specific job purposes. This strategy has not only been successful for us as a company but has resulted in an unsurpassed level of quality. And, at the end of the day a more satisfied consumer. There is nothing more rewarding then seeing a good business strategy translate into very happy clients.
In a recent article from the Fast Company Magazine, Perkins + Will’s Gina Berndt discussed the key ingredients she believed were needed to build an office that fostered a creative spirit. Although businesses can’t transform themselves solely by the design of their office, it can play largely into helping foster creativity within the employees. Some of the tips she suggests when designing an office include: engaging different perspectives in order to promote collaboration, providing an anchor in order to always bring employees back to the office, design for efficiency by making your office design plan flexible and adaptable to change, supporting different working styles by allowing employees to be inspired through the different meeting places in the office, adapting to the quickly changing technology, embracing shifting demographics from the different generations coming into the workforce, addressing wellness holistically by creating a healthy working environment, and finally making sure your office expresses who you are as a brand and how you want both your employees and the outside world to see your company. These tips can transform any dated workplace into one that inspires employees for the future.
Modern Benching for Traders
Innovant recently installed 74 FORm_office™ S4T trading positions for a Strategic Investment management firm in Mid-town Manhattan. Working closely with architects from HLW International to provide traders with an optimal ergonomic workstation and office space; providing comfort for what is often 10 and 12 hour work days.
The layout of the office space is open with floor to ceiling windows and an abundance of natural light. The sleek modern design of Innovant’s FORm_office S4T benching system contributes to the space’s overall contemporary feel. Each desk provides technology support both above and below the work surface. Built in to the desktop are power and data ports for the user’s convenience. The large work surfaces and ample storage allow for the perfect balance of an open office feeling and sense of personal space.
Innovant Featured in July Issue of Interior Design Magazine
On most trading floors around the world, the work environment seems to be one aspect that they all have in common. Traders hectically run around all day long, intensely keeping their eyes on the news tracker, making sure to be ready at any moment to make a deal to buy or sell their shares in companies around the world. This stressful image is something you won’t see at this Chicago financial services firm featured in the July issue of Interior Design Magazine. This 75,000 square-foot space, designed by architecture firm Perkins + Will, exudes an air of tranquility and peacefulness. The beautiful office is defined by its organic nature and leaves many astounded by how all the elements of the space fit together perfectly. Natural light floods into the space through the walls of windows that wrap around the sidewalls, and are further emphasized by the tapering structural columns, which appear as though they are descending from the maple-veneered cloud canopy ceiling.
Throughout the space one key element that allows the traders to connect their work with their office surroundings is through their desk. It is the single element where the technology and organic nature of the floor meet at a single point. Innovant’s FORm_office S120 desks were picked as the perfect medium to connect these two opposing elements together. The desks extend the organic nature of the office beyond just the solid structural walls, by seamlessly integrating the core elements of the business with the design aesthetic envisioned for the space. They combine both the white and maple surfaces used for the ceiling and walls to create a single platform, which wraps around the entire floor to connect the entire space. Managing Principal Tom Kasznia from Perkins + Will said, “Natural elements, for example how water flows, gave us ideas for shape clustered desking systems for all open office areas allowing for one aesthetic to create a visual flow. The fully system addresses the traders’ needs specifically.” The S120 desk greatly appealed to a space, which was designed around these structural columns, as its flexible nature allowed for it to be conformed to the layout of the design.
Looking through the magazine it is clear that this office stands apart from the typical high stress setting of most financial services offices. With light flooding in from all angles, and further complemented by the white and maple surfaces, the traders can immerse themselves in their work without having to be constantly reminded that they are stuck in an office. The peacefully tranquil office setting allows this stressful working environment to be calmed down to one that is constantly reminded of the natural elements of life beyond the working walls. Innovant’s desks allow for this seamless integration to happen between the organic natural elements and their highly technological business core. It’s an office that has the ability to inspire those within it, providing a clear definition for what the modern workplace should be.
The Future of Education
As the world becomes more and more “social,” major changes are taking place that are transforming the way we work. Private cubicles have become a thing of the past, as people are seeing the benefit of collaborative working spaces that stimulate creativity. Beyond even the world of business, these changes are infiltrating the education system, as students are beginning to see their library as more than a place just to seek information, but rather places of creativity and collaboration among peers. In this rapidly expanding world, there is a multitude of room for discovery that both the students and teachers recognize. The generations of students that are in school, and those yet to go are no longer stimulated by the solitude of cubical study spaces but seek motivation from their peers and the sharing of ideas with those around them.
Library study rooms, and conference like settings allow for collaborative creativity that students need. Our conference tables and FORm_office products fit these exact needs that students and school libraries are now calling for. Innovant has recognized these changes and universities have been seeking our products to outfit their libraries to become more than centers of information to centers for collaboration and creativity. In the past month two prestigious universities have selected Innovant products for their campuses. The University of Chicago selected Innovant’s Conference line for their Regenstein Library reading tables and York University in Toronto selected FORm_office for their Osgoode Hall Law School collaborative workstations. In April Innovant was awarded similar projects for Marist College in upstate New York, and we are currently pursuing numerous high profile higher education projects across the country with our benching and conference products.
